Our Holiday Favorites
Dash & Lily's Book Of Dares, Rachen Cohn & David Levithan, 2010
“I’ve left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you don’t, put the book back on the shelf, please.”
Dash & Lily's Book of Dares is a great romance novel to get you in the holiday spirit. This is a really cute and delightful read, appropriate for most ages and tastes. This novel is a romantic comedy, with just enough struggles to keep it real and relatable.
I would recommend this novel to anyone who loves the idea of love at first sight but also likes a little comedy involved in it as well. From laughing out loud at the hijinks of Dash and Lily to swooning over the simplicity yet pure romance of their relationship, this book has it all. It is a great read for anyone looking for a good romance story without too many unnecessary details and complications.
Besides, who wouldn't want a romance that blossoms from a fun game of dares?
The Afterlife Of Holly Chase, Cynthia Hand, 2017
A fun take on the classic A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. The story revolves around Holly Chase who was visited by three Christmas spirits in an effort to persuade her to change her ways.
Five years later, she still hadn't - and then she died.
Now, she works for Project Scrooge as the Ghost of Christmas Past and is determined to somehow change the outcome of her death and the future of her family by doing one small thing:
Loving someone.
The story is a little on the short side and could certainly be developed into a longer novel or even series, but we liked it as it was. It's a cute and quick tail-end of what could be considered as a Christmas classic.
